Description

The Snowflake Percula Clownfish features the classic form and coloration of A. percula, enhanced by broad, uneven white bars that often merge or sweep across the body. These markings vary between individuals, creating a distinctive “snowflake” effect that sets this morph apart from traditional patterns.

Adults reach 7–8 cm (3 inches) in length. The intense orange base colour, crisp black outlines, and sweeping white patterns give the Snowflake a dramatic and visually dynamic presence in the aquarium.

Aquarium Requirements

Minimum Tank Size: 75 litres (20 US gallons)

Temperature: 24–27 °C (75–81 °F)

pH: 8.1–8.4

Aquascape and Environment:
Provide a stable, mature aquarium with rockwork, corals, or anemones to encourage natural hosting behaviour. Low-to-moderate flow and consistent water quality are ideal. As an aquacultured variant, the Snowflake Percula adapts readily to a variety of marine setups, from nano reefs to mixed community tanks.

Diet and Feeding

The Snowflake Percula Clownfish is omnivorous and easy to feed, accepting a wide range of prepared and frozen foods. A varied diet helps maintain vibrant coloration and overall health.

Recommended Foods:

  • Frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped marine blends

  • High-quality pellets and flakes formulated for marine omnivores

  • Occasional live foods such as copepods or blackworms

  • Spirulina- or algae-based foods for added nutritional balance

Feed 1–2 times daily, offering manageable portions to prevent overfeeding.

Temperament and Compatibility

The Snowflake Percula is generally peaceful but can become semi-aggressive as it matures, especially when defending a chosen hosting site. It typically thrives in community reef environments when paired with similarly peaceful species.

Suitable Tankmates:

  • Peaceful fish such as gobies, blennies, dartfish, chromis, and small wrasses

  • Reef-safe invertebrates including shrimp, snails, and hermits

  • Another A. percula as a bonded pair or when introduced simultaneously as juveniles

Avoid:

  • Other clownfish species in smaller aquariums

  • Large or aggressive fish that may intimidate or outcompete it

  • Fast-feeding species that disrupt its territory

Reef Compatibility

Reef Safe

The Snowflake Percula is completely reef safe and does not harm corals or sessile invertebrates. It may naturally host:

  • Bubble Tip Anemones (Entacmaea quadricolor)

  • Toadstool leather corals

  • Euphyllia species (torch, hammer, and frogspawn corals)

These hosting relationships are natural and generally harmless to the coral or anemone.
